First Jobs 

After college, Rahul wanted more. He thought of PhD. He dreamed to be a teacher. But life changed. He worked at United Airlines. It was in IT department. There, in Chicago, he met Rakesh Gangwal. Rakesh was from US Airways later. This meeting was key. It helped start IndiGo years later. In 1984, Rahul came back to India. He was in Delhi. He tried a telecom idea. It was with Nortel. They wanted digital phone exchanges. But government said no. They did not like foreign tech then. So, plan failed. Rahul looked for new paths.

His father needed help. Kapil’s health was bad in 1988. Delhi Express was struggling. Rahul stepped in. He helped his dad. Soon, they sold it. On October 6, 1989, they started new company. It was InterGlobe Enterprises. First office at 66 Janpath, New Delhi. It did air transport management. 

Building InterGlobe 

InterGlobe grew fast. Rahul was smart leader. He added many businesses. They did travel tech. Also, hotels and jets. In 1994, he got big deal. It was all-India franchise. For back-office services.
